About This Series:
Zach Trewick always thought he'd become a writer someday, or maybe play baseball for the Texas Rangers. What he never imagined in his craziest dreams was that he'd find himself dodging bullets and crashing cars off mountainsides, let alone that he'd ever be expected to break the ancient werewolf curse which hangs over his family.
But Zach is the last of the werewolf hunters, the long-foretold Curse-Breaker who can wipe out the wolves forever, and he's not the type to give up just because of a few minor setbacks. . .
Cry for the Moon: What would you do, if your family wanted you to become a monster? What if they wouldn’t take no for an answer? When 12 year old Zach faces questions like these, he seems to have only one choice; run. Thus begins a long search for refuge, and perhaps redemption also.
Behind Blue Eyes: When a stranger kidnaps him from his own back yard, Zach soon finds that the past isn’t quite as dead as he might wish. For the time has come at last for him to break the werewolf curse forever; and his family has no intention of letting that happen.
More Golden Than Day: When his girlfriend and then his cousin fall into the hands of the wolves, Zach has no choice but to take on his enemies for a second round. Only this time the stakes are horribly high, and if he fails he may end up losing everything he’s ever loved.
Truesilver: When a family of wicked ex-wolves is accidentally awakened, Zach soon finds himself locked in a desperate fight for survival that he never anticipated. And even though he’s sworn an oath to fight evil to the utmost of his power, there are times when courage is awfully hard to come by.
Lion's Heart: After traveling to the distant future to save the girl he loves from the evil ex-werewolf Dr. Andrew Garza, Cameron finds himself in a whole new world of intrigue, secret police, and wicked schemes that may yet destroy the entire human race.
In My Own Words
The Last Werewolf Hunter has been one of the most fun and interesting projects I've ever done, maybe because I came to know the characters so well that they began to seem almost like real people.
Zach Trewick, the main character, starts out as a 12 year old kid who has to run away from home to keep from being cursed and turned into a werewolf like the rest of his family, who all think it's a wonderful idea and won't take no for an answer.
That would be hard enough, but Zach soon finds himself expected to do more than just save himself. In time he must return and face all his greatest fears in order to break the Curse forever and save the very people who cost him so much. In the process he learns a lot about himself, and about God, and the meaning of love and forgiveness.
Much of what he learns comes from his uncle Justin and aunt Eileen, not to mention his cousin (and best friend) Cameron. Other important characters are his girlfriend Jolie and her cousin Matthieu, Edith Ross, and Cameron's girlfriend Joan. Cameron and Joan go on to be the major characters in Lion's Heart, the last book in this series, and then also in the Tyke McGrath series, and Matthieu plays a part in that series also, as well as in the book Many Waters.
The story contains a lot of humor to keep it from being too serious, even though Zach freqently has to face things which are very serious indeed. So there's a lot of subtlety in the work, and I like to believe it gives the reader a lot to think about while entertaining him at the same time. I wrote it in such a way that a child of ten or twelve could enjoy it as a humorous adventure, and at the same time an experienced adult could also find things in it to nourish his spirit.
The story was originally made up of three parts, although I decided later to write additional books because I got so many requests from fans for more of Zach's adventures. Most people would probably read the whole series straight through, but it's not necessary. Here are the links to each section, if you'd like to read part of it:
Book I: Cry For the Moon
Book II: Behind Blue Eyes
Book III: More Golden Than Day
Book IV: Truesilver
